African-American Sites highlighted in Pendleton Walking Tour

Historical African-American sites and structures will be the focus of the February Pendleton Walking Tour. The 1.6 mile, 2 hour walking tour will be held on Feb. 13 and 14, beginning at 2pm. The tour will include Woodburn’s slave cabin, King’s Chapel AME Church and Cemetery, the Rev. Augustus Vance home, the site of the first public school built for African-Americans in Pendleton, and the old Silver Spring Church and Cemetery. Guests will also stop at the former sites of the Ben Keese Antique Store, café, and community center and the Anderson Training School. Guests will end their tour by exploringthe Faith Cabin Library, which was built in 1937. The tour will begin at Woodburn Historical House, which is located at 130 History Lane in Pendleton. Admission is $6 and reservations are suggested, though not required, as space is limited. For more information call 864-207-0705.
