Search and Rescue at Sid Falls

Saturday evening around 5:15pm, the Oconee County 911 Center received a call from a male who was lost in a remote area of the county and in distress. Dispatchers were able to use “Phase 2” cell phone technology to obtain a location on the individual and alert responders. Fire and Rescue personnel were dispatched to the Sid Falls area of Longcreek to search for the 21-year-old male. Once on scene, a hasty search team and medical team began to hike the three-mile trail in an attempt to locate the individual. The male was located after nearly two hours of searching the area. The subject was cold and wet, but not injured. He was removed from the woods and taken to the Long Creek Fire station to be evaluated. The young male was a Clemson Student who was visiting the area for the first time. Approximately, 40 emergency personnel operated on the scene in near freezing temperatures. While Oconee County Emergency Services encourages everyone to visit the county’s natural resources, it cannot stress enough the importance of being prepared.
