Clements to be installed during CU Commencement

The fifteenth president of Clemson University, Dr. James P. Clements will be installed May 9, giving a unique twist to the school’s spring commencement ceremonies. University presidential inaugurations typically are standalone events.  However, Clements’ installation will be different. The new president will deliver his inaugural address in three short segments at each of the graduation ceremonies that day. The uniqueness of Clemson’s commencement ceremony this year will be equal to the uniqueness of the investiture elements of the presidential ceremony.  During the 9:30am ceremony, featuring graduates of the colleges of Engineering and Science and Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences, Clements will receive the Clemson University presidential chain, seal and robe. At 2:30pm, with graduates of the colleges of Architecture, Arts and Humanities and Health, Education and Human Development, Clements will receive a framed copy of the will of university founder Thomas Green Clemson. In the 6:30pm Ceremony, with graduates of the College of Business and Behavioral Science, he will be given the state’s Act of Acceptance. Clements was named president of Clemson University this past November and took office December 31.  The inauguration of President Clements, as well as each of Clemson University’s commencement ceremonies, will be streamed live online at www.clemson.edu.
