Don’t Drink and Boat or Drive this Holiday Weekend

Extra law enforcement patrols the roads and waterways this 4th of July holiday weekend. “Don’t drink and drive; do not be operating a vehicle under the influence. Do not be operating a boat or a watercraft under the influence as well.” Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Pubic Information Officer Jimmy Watt says deputies will be very visible this 4th of July being that it is on a Saturday. “Officers will be out there patrolling the roadways. I know that Marine 1, our marine unit, will be out there on the waterways, meeting people, enforcing the laws and helping those who need help on the water.” As always if plan to drink have a designated driver, concludes Watt. “Have a designated driver, not only boating but also driving. Slow down, reduce your speeds and give yourself plenty of extra time to get to your destination because you will have a lot of company out there on the roads.” To report boating violations such as reckless operation or an intoxicated boat operator, call the DNR toll-free, 24-hour hotline at 1-800-922-5431.
