SDOC boasts 100% Highly Qualified Teachers

The School District of Oconee County is celebrating its teachers after learning that 100% of them are highly qualified. Ernestine Williams, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources in the School District of Oconee County says the district has been working to achieve this goal over the last seven years. ”Over the past seven years, we have been perhaps 99.5% or 99.3% but this year we are 100% highly qualified, which means that the state pulls data from our information system and they look at not only what classes the teachers are teaching but every course that the teacher teaches.” Williams explains what it means to be a highly qualified teacher. “Over 3,397 classes that were taught in Oconee County by our teachers and every one of those courses and classes were taught by certified and highly qualified teachers. To be highly qualified they just have to be content competent in the area that they are teaching in and so we are proud to say that our teachers were certified and content competent to teach the subject that were required to teach for our students.” Congratulations to the School District of Oconee County for achieving 100% highly qualified and certified teachers this year.
