SMS Chorus earns Awards

The Seneca Middle School (SMS) Chorus program is a successful one by any measure and has been for many years. Their accomplishments this year included a large contingent in the All-County Chorus and numerous students accepted to the elite All-State Chorus. This year one student was the first ever to be named to the National ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) Middle School Honor Choir. This spring the program, led by Director Carla Brock, added two additional accomplishments that have further cemented their standing as a quality program. The school’s Honors Chorus performed at the state Concert Performance Assessment where they earned another Superior rating. This year, however, they earned a Superior with Distinction rating. This score also placed the group within the top five scores in the state including several specialized Performing Arts charter schools. The program then travelled to Nashville to perform at the Nashville Heritage Festival. The group earned first place in their class (middle schools) with a Gold rating and their score, an exceptionally high 97, also earned them the Adjudicator’s Award. Director Carla Brock said of the program’s accomplishments, “Our students work hard all year long and we are fortunate to have the generous support of parents and our school’s administration. It is gratifying for us to have these tangible results to show what can result from the many days and months of hard work and dedication.”
