Visitors flocking to OC for Memorial Day Weekend

With numerous activities planned, thousands of visitors are flocking to the Golden Corner of South Carolina for the Memorial Day holiday weekend, says Oconee County Parks, Recreation, and Tourism director Phil Shirley. “Of course Seneca Fest kicks off today and there are a whole weekend full of activities. We have the Long Creek Music Festival going on this weekend, so if you are a music buff, this weekend you can find it. There is Square Dancing at Oconee State Park and the Silver Dollar Music Hall with bluegrass. We have the Rally in the Valley cycling event in Tamassee this weekend. Then you have the great outdoors and a lot of people are going to be kicking off summer this weekend with boating and hiking. The campgrounds are slap full; every time the phone rings this week, it seems like the second sentence that staff says is ‘No I’m sorry we are full.’ We were able to push them over to some other folks but now everybody is full. So, if you waited to the last minute to try to go camping it is probably going to have to be in the backyard or a private place somewhere that is not full, but we have people everywhere.” Learn more about activities in Oconee County, by visiting www.experienceoconee.com.
