Walhalla High names New Head Football Coach

Walhalla High School Athletics announces Padgett Johnson as their new head football coach. “We conducted a thorough search with several interviews and Coach Johnson impressed us over the other candidates,” said Walhalla High School Principal Steve Garrett. “He has proven leadership skills that are needed in the Walhalla program. Since 2000, the WHS program has had 47 wins against 124 loses. Having a winning percentage of 27.4% has led our administration to believe that it is time to think beyond the traditional coaching model and focus on proven leadership and success in multiple facets of life that can foster the development of young men in the classroom, community, and the field.” Prior to applying for the Razorback job, Mr. Johnson was both a successful business owner as well as a successful coach. He has coached the Central Tigers, of Central recreation league, for six years. Overall, he has been in coaching for sixteen years. Principal Garrett said, “We recognize that this is not a traditional hire, yet we are confident that given this opportunity Coach Johnson is going to have a tremendous positive influence on our program.” Padgett Johnson graduated from Clemson University with a BS in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation, he established and managed a successful business, Johnson Electric Co., Inc. For the past six years, he has coached the Central Tigers, which serves as a feeder program to Daniel High School. “Both football and business require a foundation built on trust, structure, method, process, expertise and personal relationships. Whether it is football or business, relationships with people are at the very core of success. I am passionate about the game of football and how it can be used to teach many life lessons. Football can be used to develop a strong work ethic as well as character in our young men,” said Coach Johnson. “I am excited about this opportunity to work with the young men at Walhalla High School.” Coach Johnson begins working with the football program at Walhalla High School immediately.
