100 Kids treated to Christmas through Show with a Bobcat

One hundred kids from Seneca area elementary schools were treated to Christmas on Friday thanks to the Shop with a Bobcat Program at Seneca High School, tells Guidance Counselor Cari Carter. “This was the third year of Shop with a Bobcat. We pair a big Bobcat from the high school with a little Bobcat from one of the elementary schools. We actually have about 100 elementary students total with about 30 from each of the elementary schools in the Seneca area. It is primarily funded by donations through businesses and families. We raise money and then take the kids, they get an experience not just Christmas gifts but actually have the experience of shopping with their high school Bobcat to buy Christmas gifts for themselves as well as their family members. Then they have the experience of coming back to the high school, they wrap their gifts, they have cookies, Santa is there and this year we had a photo booth. They have a great experience and it is really an all day event. They start with breakfast in the morning and end with lunch before they go back to the elementary school normally, this year we had some snow so no lunch before they went back. But everything was great and again we thank the businesses and families in the Seneca area who sponsored that.” Seneca High School students compete each year to be a part of Shop with a Bobcat and they must meet certain criteria to be one of the big Bobcats. The Student Government Association at Seneca High School raises money and transforms the gym into a winter wonderland for the kids.
