10th Circuit Solicitor’s Office Announces Guilty Plea Related To 2018 Bountyland Accident

(Seneca, SC)——The 10th Circuit Solicitor’s Office has announced that Thomas James Kirby has pled guilty to a charge of reckless homicide yesterday in regards to a motor vehicle accident last year that took the life of a passenger in another vehicle.

The accident occurred on May 21st at the intersection of Highway 28 and Keowee School Road in Bountyland and took the life of Linda Roose.

According to a press release from the 10th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, the black Jeep Cherokee that Kirby was driving crossed the asphalt median into oncoming traffic and collided with a Nissan Altima which was driven by John Roose, the deceased husband.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Kirby had a seizure that caused him to lose control of the vehicle.  According to information provided to the Highway Patrol in its investigation, Kirby had been treated for seizures previously and had been given specific discharge instructions not to operate a motor vehicle in April of last year.

Judge Lawton McIntosh sentenced Kirby to 105 months in the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
