Earlier Situation Involving Barricaded Subject In Seneca Resolved Peacefully

(Seneca, SC)—————————————–An earlier incident at Crescent Pointe Apartments in which a former Oconee County Sheriff’s Office deputy barricaded himself inside his apartment came to a peaceful conclusion early this afternoon. Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said that around 10am this morning, deputies attempted to serve a civil process of eviction on a subject at the Apartment complex on Highway 59 in Seneca. The subject barricaded himself in a bedroom and relayed to deputies that he had a weapon. In order to avoid a conflict of interest, Sheriff Crenshaw contacted the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. The SWAT team and negotiators from SLED responded and made contact with the subject. At 2pm this afternoon, the subject was taken into protective custody without incident. The subject was transported to a medical facility for evaluation. Sheriff Crenshaw says that the subject will be charged with Interference with a Civil Process upon his release and will be transported to a Detention Facility outside of Oconee County. The Sheriff said that the name of the subject will be released once the arrest warrant has been obtained by the Sheriff’s Office.

No shots were fired and no injuries were reported, according to the Sheriff and the eviction process was continuing this afternoon per the law and the eviction order from the Magistrates Office.

The Sheriff said that the Seneca Police Department evacuated residents from nearby apartments in the same building where the subjects apartment was located. The Sheriff says that normal operations at two nearby schools, Blue Ridge Elementary School and Seneca High School, were not affected and neither school was put on a Code Yellow due to the fact that the subject was confined to the bedroom in his apartment, according to the Sheriff.

The former deputy has been gone for about a year from the Sheriff’s Office, according to the Sheriff. Besides the Seneca Police Department and SLED, paramedics and the Seneca Fire Department also assisted in the operation.
