Seneca instituting Direct Deposit for Employees

In a further effort to save money and reduce waste, the City of Senecais instituting direct deposit for its employees.   At their meeting this week, the Seneca City Council accepted City Clerk-Treasurer Joel Seavey’s recommendation to switch to direct deposit, explains Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander.  “When Joel Seavey came on the City Council had wanted to set up an option for employees to get on direct deposit, but for a long time it seemed like we were never able to make that happen.  When Joel came on, within about a month it was all lined up and everything was taken care of, so about 70% of the city’s employees now take advantage of that.” The City plans to make direct deposit mandatory in the next year, adds Mayor Alexander.  “We are always looking at ways to be more efficient and try to save money and by going to direct deposit you don’t have the checks and paper, you can just send it straight in.  We have about 30% of employees that are not on right now but within the next year, we are planning on this being mandatory.  There are some different banks that Joel has talked to and if we have an employee that maybe doesn’t want to do it we are going to work with to tell them how we are going to do it.” In the end the switch to direct deposit should save the city money, concludes Mayor Alexander.  “Basically just going totally direct deposit for employees payrolls and we can do away with all that paper to save some money there.  Joel is constantly coming up with different ideas to save money and some of those have had roadblocks but we are starting to get around some of those now.”  The Seneca City Council hopes that all city employees will convert to direct deposit before the new budget takes effect in July.
