More American Women confess to Binge Drinking

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is out with a new report that says more American women confess to being binge drinkers.  The CDC’s Dr. Robert Brewer says there is a major problem with binge drinking by American women. “We are specifically estimating that upwards of 14 million U.S. adult women binge drink one or more times within the past month.” There is no underestimating the health risks to some women and girls, who admit to binge drinking, adds Dr. Brewer.  “Binge drinking is indeed a serious health problem for women and girls.” Dr. Brewer says these women can face some serious health problems because of binge drinking. “Heart disease, Cancer, particularly Breast Cancer, but then also really can have some very significant impacts on reproductive health.” The amount and frequency of women, who binge drink is also alarming, concludes Dr. Brewer. “What is particularly concerning is that those who do report binge drinking tend to do so frequently about three times a month and tend to drink quit a bite when they do, upwards of six drinks per binge drinking episode.” Binge drinking is the modern epithet for drinking alcoholic beverages with the primary intention of becoming intoxicated by heavy consumption over a short period. Due to the long-term effects of alcohol misuse, binge drinking is considered a major public health issue. Most binge drinkers are not familiar with the risks.
