Seneca hosting Tea and Culture Lecture Series on Wednesday

Wednesday evening, Oct. 4, 2017, the City of Seneca and the Bertha Lee Strickland Cultural Museum host their fourth Tea and Culture Lecture Series. Bertha Lee Strickland Cultural Museum Manager Shelby Henderson says they have a great speaker lined up. “Dr. Simon Hudson, Endowed Chair, Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Center Director, Smart State Center of Economic Excellence in Tourism and Economic Development, University of South Carolina, will discuss the economic impact of African American tourism in South Carolina. Dr. Hudson is an internationally recognized tourism expert who has written books on golf tourism, the international ski industry, sports and adventure tourism, and tourism marketing. Prior to coming to South Carolina, he held academic positions at universities in Canada and England, and has worked as a visiting professor in Australia, Austria, Fiji, New Zealand, Spain, and Switzerland. Dr. Hudson has also taught twice on Semester at Sea, a floating shipboard campus that integrates multiple-country study, interdisciplinary coursework, and hands-on field experiences for meaningful engagement in the global community. Prior to academia, Hudson spent several years working in the tourism industry in Europe. Dr. Hudson’s research focuses on tourism as a driver of economic development. His goals are to create a one-stop resource of advanced information and intelligence for tourism industry stakeholders and to improve South Carolina’s competitiveness as a tourism destination. He is frequently invited to international tourism conferences as a keynote speaker. The reception is from 6-6:30pm with the lecture starting at 6:30pm. Come early because seating is limited.” The lecture takes place at the Seneca Water Treatment Facility, which is located at 630 Northampton Road.
