Man arrested on Multiple Charges in OC

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested an Oconee County man Friday on multiple charges, including one count of grand larceny, tells Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt. “35-year-old Charles Daniel Barker was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center after being transported from the Anderson County Detention Center to Oconee County. The Detention Center lists Barker’s address as Shore Drive in Fair Play while arrest warrants lists Barker’s address as Southgate Drive in Seneca. Barker has also been charged with two counts of possession of a stolen vehicle. Barker’s arrest is the second by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office in its investigation into two separate incidents in which 37-year-old Shelly Renae Allen of Scruggs Road in Williamston was arrested on Sept. 2. The Sheriff’s Office announced Allen’s arrest in a press release on Sept. 5, on two counts each of grand larceny and possession of a stolen vehicle. The first investigation began on Aug. 17, as a deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division responded to an address on Old Clemson Highway in reference to reports of a stolen vehicle, which was a silver 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck. The second investigation began on Aug. 19, as a deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division responded to an address on Wells Highway in regards to a call regarding a stolen vehicle. The truck was a 1987 Gray Dodge Ram 50 pickup truck. That vehicle was later located in the Seneca area at the Southgate Drive address of Barker. The cases were turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office. As the investigation continued and evidence was gathered in both cases, deputies determined that Allen and Barker did take the 2003 Dodge that was reportedly taken to Spartanburg for the purpose of selling the vehicle before it was stolen by someone looking to the buy the truck. The truck was eventually recovered in Rutherfordton, North Carolina. In the case of the 1987 Dodge Ram, Allen is accused of removing stickers from the windows of the truck in order to alter its appearance and with stealing the truck as well. According to warrants, Barker is accused of spray painting the same vehicle.” As of noon today, Barker remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center on a combined $22,500 surety bond. Allen was released from the Detention Center on Sept. 16, after posting bond.
