Ten killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces that ten people were killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of Oct. 8, 2017, 740 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 774 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016. Locally, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety lists Anderson County with 32 roadway fatalities in 2017 compared to 48 in 2016 at this same time. Pickens County reports 17 in 2017 and 15 in 2016. Oconee County has experienced 12 roadway deaths in 2017 compared to ten in 2016 at this same time. Of the 506 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2017, 249 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight Oct. 8, 104 pedestrians have died compared to 110 in 2016; 93 motorcyclists have died compared to 114 in 2016; and 14 bicyclists have died compared to 21 in 2016 on state roadways.
