Mobile Control Tower helping land Planes on Gameday

A mobile control tower is helping to land planes at the Oconee Regional Airport for Clemson University football games. On Oct. 7, the airport used the tower to guide 45 pilots in and out of the airport for the Wake Forest football game, so the airport will use it again when the Tigers play the Florida State Seminoles on Nov. 11. The cost to use the tower over the Wake Forest football weekend, Oct. 6-8, was $11,000. Airport officials see the need for the temporary tower as a sign that the local airport is getting bigger and someday, with increased traffic, might be able to justify a permanent tower.
