Salem Man arrested on Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor Charge

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Salem man Tuesday on a charge of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the first degree, explains Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt. “62-year-old Larry Ricky Ramey of Jocassee Lake Road was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center. The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation after being made aware in April of this year of allegations of possible inappropriate contact between Ramey and a nine-year-old juvenile. The investigation was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division of the Sheriff’s Office and Sgt. Tim Rice, the Child and Elder Abuse Investigator of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office. After evidence was gathered in the investigation, Sgt. Rice was able to determine that Ramey had inappropriate contact with the victim in the fall of 2016. Based upon the evidence obtained in the investigation, Sgt. Rice had probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant against Ramey on the Criminal Sexual Conduct charge. The charge against Ramey involves only one victim.” Bond will be set by a Circuit Court Judge at a later date. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
