OMH Foundation celebrates 10th Anniversary of The Cottingham House

It has now been ten years since The Cottingham House first started offering hospice services to the residents of Oconee and Pickens counties. The Oconee Memorial Hospital Foundation recently held a party to celebrate the milestone, says Manager Cortni Nations. “The celebration was fantastic. We celebrated the tenth anniversary of serving patients in an inpatient facility. Our Hospice of the Foothills Program has been around since 1989 that began as a vision of Dr. Don Crippen to be able to provide quality, compassionate hospice care in this community and that has continued. Ten years ago we were able to raise enough funds thanks to this community that house, The Cottingham House, was built debt free with donations. We are very proud of that. To date we have served nearly 2,400 people in the lat ten years with inpatient care. I believe our youngest patient in the house was 19 and our oldest patient served there was 108-years-old, so we are very proud of the service. We’re proud of what the community has done to give back. So, we were able to celebrate with about 40 community members last week and it was a nice celebration.” For terminally ill patients who are unable to receive the hospice care they need in their own homes, The Cottingham House at Hospice of the Foothills provides a peaceful care alternative. Hospice of the Foothills is a part of Greenville Health System. The Cottingham House, the first and only freestanding hospice facility in Oconee or Pickens counties, provides a comfortable, homelike setting for patients with end-stage illnesses.
