Clemson Student Government votes not to impeach VP

After more than nine hours of deliberations in executive session, the student senate at Clemson University voted not to impeach or remove the university’s student vice president, a black man who recently refused to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance. On Sept. 25, Jaren Stewart, along with other students sat through the pledge at a student government meeting, in solidarity with NFL players protesting police brutality and racial oppression. However, the student senator who called for the impeachment trial said the protest was not the reason for it. The student executive session started at 8pm Monday and concluded around 5:40am Tuesday. The vote was two less than that needed in order to impeach.
