13th Solicitor announces Winners in “Say No to Drugs” Poster Contest

This week, 13th Judicial Circuit Solicitor W. Walter Wilkins announced the winners in his annual “Say No to Drugs” poster contest. Entries were submitted for the contest by more than 400 middle and junior high school students in Greenville and Pickens counties. From these entries, 13 winners were chosen to have their poster in a 2018 calendar, which will be given to middle and junior high students. The grand prize was $300 and the winning entry will be on the cover of the calendar. The three second place winners each received $200. Each of the nine third place winners received $100. The winning students, their parents, art teachers and principals as well as the contest judges were invited to the courtroom presentation. “I am pleased to continue the drug awareness calendar for the twenty third year,” said Solicitor Wilkins. “It is a positive way to use seized assets of illegal drug dealers to both educate our children about the dangers of drug use and to recognize those who use their talents in a productive way.” The poster winners are: 1st Place: Rebecca Kaup from League Academy; 2ND Place: Aleta Larking of League Academy, Genesis Garcia from Hughes Academy, and Amelia Daugherty of Northwest Middle; 3rd Place: Selina Winningham of Northwest Middle, Nicole Campos from Northwest Middle, Ruth Beyer of Hillcrest Middle, Bethany Thurston from Greer Middle, Evelyn Marquez of Northwest Middle, Joseph Nunley from Hillcrest Middle, Emmaline Jantz of League Academy, Sydney McAfee from League Academy, and Kinslee Stevens of League Academy. This project is funded with drug forfeiture money.
