One killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces that one person was killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of Nov. 12, 2017, 833 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 893 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016. Locally, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety lists Anderson County with 37 roadway fatalities in 2017 compared to 53 in 2016 at this same time. Pickens County reports 19 in 2017 and 17 in 2016. Oconee County has experienced 15 roadway deaths in 2017 compared to 10 in 2016 at this same time. Of the 560 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2017, 274 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight Nov. 12, 128 pedestrians have died compared to 123 in 2016; 102 motorcyclists have died compared to 136 in 2016; and 17 bicyclists have died compared to 22 in 2016 on state roadways.
