Four SHS Baseball Players sign College Letters of Intent

Four members of the defending Upper State Champion Seneca Bobcat Baseball Team signed letters of intent Tuesday afternoon to continue their education and baseball careers with local colleges. Third baseman Jack Fassino and pitcher Bryson Whaley signed with Anderson University. Catcher Petey Ridley signed with Toccoa Falls College. Outfielder Furman Wilson signed with Coker College. Seneca High School (SHS) Varsity Baseball Coach Andy Bay was very proud of his players’ accomplishments. “All four of these kids have the character, work ethic, and discipline to play at the next level. There is so much time and work that goes into this that people don’t see. So, just very proud of them for setting a goal, reaching it, and I just wish them the best. We’re not done, this is a great day but we are not done we have a whole season left to play in the spring, so it is a very exciting time.” SHS Athletic Director Yon Radford said it was a great day for the Bobcats. “Well, it’s a great day to be a Bobcat. I can’t say how proud we are of those kids for what they have done and they are all going to be successful at the next stage.” All four players were instrumental in leading the 2017 Bobcat Baseball team to a record of 25-5, winning the Region 1-AAA Championship, AAA District 1 Championship, and AAA Upper State Championship. Jack Fassino hit .383 with 8 doubles, 1 triple, and 4 homeruns as a junior with 37 RBIs. Petey Ridley hit .422 with 11 RBIs and 4 doubles and was stellar behind the plate all year. Bryson Whaley was 7-1 with 1 save on the mound with an ERA of 2.084. He hit .263 with 6 RBIs. Furman Wilson hit .269 with 4 doubles and a homerun with 8 RBIs and had 29 walks and an on base percentage of .477. He also stole 11 bases and scored 27 runs.
