Salem Man arrested on Grand Larceny Charge

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Salem man yesterday on a Grand Larceny charge. 48 year old Joey Liston Smith of Tilson Circle was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 2:47pm by a deputy from the Warrants Division after being transported to Oconee County from the Rabun County Detention Center. A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division received a call in reference to a stolen vehicle back on July 27th of this year. According to the complainant, a 1994 Green Chevy C 1500 pickup truck was taken from an address on Pine Mountain Road in Tamassee that morning. According to the complainant, no one had permission to drive the vehicle. The case was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division. The truck was later discovered by an officer with the Mountain City Police Department in Rabun County on August 4th. As the investigation continued and evidence was gathered, it was determined that Smith had taken the truck without consent. An arrest was obtained against Smith on the charge of Grand Larceny. As of 11:15am this morning, Smith remains in custody at the Detention Center on a $7,500 surety bond.
