MADD to host Annual State Candlelight Vigil

Each year, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) South Carolina honors and remembers those who lost their lives, or were seriously injured, as the result of an impaired driving crash at its annual Statewide Candlelight Vigil. This unique event holds great importance to the victims and survivors that are supported by MADD as it provides an opportunity for many to come together to honor and remember their loved ones among other victims and survivors from around the state. During the vigil, attendees can speak the name of those they are remembering or honoring and hang a heart with their loved ones name on it on the Victim Memorial Tree. This year’s Statewide Candlelight Vigil takes place on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 1pm in the State Museum, which is located at 301 Gervais Street in Columbia. In 2016, there were 331 alcohol-impaired driving fatalities in South Carolina and many more were injured.
