West Union Man arrested on Second Grand Larceny Charge

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has charged a West Union man arrested earlier this week with a second count of grand larceny. 23-year-old Justin O’Neal Justus of Hunter Street was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center Tuesday on multiple charges, including one count of grand larceny and four counts of financial transaction card fraud, which were related to a separate investigation. A deputy was dispatched to an address on Owens Drive in West Union on Nov. 23, in regards to a stolen vehicle, a white 2000 Ford Taurus. The vehicle was involved in an accident on Nov. 23, near Greenfield Road and Barrett Way. The accident was investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Meanwhile, a deputy spoke with a victim on Nov. 23, in regards to a separate grand larceny investigation that also occurred on that same day in which a 1992 Chevrolet 1500 pick-up that was located on the victim’s property at J and L Farm Circle near Westminster was stolen. The truck was stolen from an area not too far away from where the motor vehicle accident occurred involving the Ford Taurus. Based upon evidence gathered as a result of that investigation, it was determined that Justus had also stolen the Chevrolet 1500 pick-up truck. The four charges of financial transaction card fraud stem from a separate investigation that began on Sept. 16, when deputies took a report of credit and debit card fraud related to stolen cards that were used to make unauthorized purchases. A check of the victim’s accounts and an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division of the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office revealed the stolen cards were used at three separate businesses in the county on Sept. 16. Justus is currently being held at the Oconee County Detention Center on a combined $23,500 surety bond. Bond has yet to be set on the second grand larceny charge. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation into the financial transaction card fraud incident.
