Greenville Man sentenced on Murder and Conspiracy Charges

Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins announces that 60-year-old John Michael Hughes was convicted on Dec. 7, 2017, by a Greenville County jury of murder, conspiracy, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He was sentenced to 55 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections by the Honorable Perry H. Gravely. He will not be eligible for parole and must serve the sentence day for day. Solicitor Wilkins reports that the jury found that, on Jan. 24, 2015, Hughes shot and killed his son-in-law, John Ferrell, at Hughes’ residence in Simpsonville. Solicitor Wilkins stated that charges remain pending against additional individuals in the case.
