Six killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces that six people were killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of Dec. 10, 2017, 914 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 966 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016. Locally, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety lists Anderson County with 42 traffic fatalities in 2017 compared to 57 in 2016. Pickens County reports 20 in 2017 and 19 in 2016 at this same time. Oconee County has experienced 17 deaths in 2017 and 10 in 2016. Of the 610 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2017, 294 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight Dec. 10, 144 pedestrians have died compared to 138 in 2016; 110 motorcyclists have died compared to 145 in 2016; and 18 bicyclists have died compared to 25 in 2016 on state roadways.
