SDOC announces Administrative Changes

At their meeting this week, the Board of Trustees for the School District of Oconee County (SDOC) approved two administrative changes that will take place at the end of the current school year. Gene Williams, Director of Adult Education, will retire at the close of the school year. Williams first joined the SDOC as a math teacher at Seneca Middle in 1990. He became an assistant principal at Seneca High in 1995. Williams returned to Seneca Middle in 2002 as principal. In 2005, he transitioned to leading the SDOC alternative school. In 2013 he began leading the adult education program where he has been since. Superintendent Dr. Michael Thorsland, stated, “It is tough to replace an administrator with the experience of Mr. Williams. Mr. Williams has been fiercely loyal to our district and his wonderful people skills will be missed greatly.” Replacing Williams at adult education will be Steve Moore, currently an assistant principal at West-Oak High and formerly the principal of Tamassee-Salem Middle and High (TSMH). Moore joined the SDOC in 1992 as a teacher and coach at Seneca High. He became assistant principal at TSMH in 1999 before being promoted to principal there in 2003. Moore remained the principal of TSMH until the school closed in 2016. He has served at West-Oak High for the past year and a half. Dr. Thorsland said that he is looking forward to working with Moore in his new role saying, “Mr. Moore is a wonderful motivator and encourager. He has an excellent skill set to be an effective leader of our adult programs.”
