Clemson switching to One Permit System

In 2018, the City of Clemson will switch to a one permit system. On Jan. 1, the Clemson Planning and Codes Administration will be enacting a single building permit application, explains Clemson Mayor JC Cook. “It’s a little bit of a change, we’re trying to make a little simpler for contractors. In the past, a contractor had to come in and get their building permit and then the HVAC, electrician and plumber, all had to do it separately. But now, we’ve combined it where the contractor can do it for all the different trades. The trades still have to get their business licenses, of course, to do their work, but at least it simplifies one step is the process. So, we’re looking all the time to try to simplify the process to make it more convenient to do business in the City of Clemson.” It will still be necessary to continue to apply for a Grading permit. With the enacting of this new permit application, there is also a new fee schedule; however, the fees have been adjusted to maintain the same level of revenue that the multiple permit applications did.
