Four killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of four persons killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of Jan. 7, 12 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 20 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Locally, Anderson County lists one roadway death in 2018 compared to zero in 2017 at this same time. Pickens County reports zero fatalities in 2018 and two in 2017. Oconee County has experienced one roadway death in 2018 compared to zero in 2017 at this same time. Of the 10 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2018, seven were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight Jan. 7, one pedestrian has died compared to two in 2017; one motorcyclist has died compared to zero in 2017; and zero bicyclists have died each of the past two years at this same time on state roadways.
