Building Fire with Injury in Mountain Rest

Oconee County Fire Chief Charlie King reports that shortly after 9am this morning, first responders were dispatched to a report of a building fire in the 200 block of Cassidy Bridge Road in the Mountain Rest community. Firefighters arrived on scene within minutes to find a workshop well involved in fire with one individual injured. As fire crews worked to bring the fire under control, medical personnel treated the individual on scene prior to being flown by helicopter to the Jim Still Burn Center in Augusta, Ga. The fire was brought under control in approximately 25 minutes and there were no additional injuries. Chief King says that the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Crews are also assisting the family with immediate needs in recovering. The agencies operating at the incident were the Mountain Rest Fire Department, Mountain Rest Rescue, Long Creek Fire Department, West Union Fire Department, Walhalla Fire Department, GHS/OMC EMS, Oconee County Sheriffs Office and Oconee County Fire Department Investigations Team.
