Sesquicentennial Proclamation signing Tonight in OC

At 5pm tonight, Jan. 29, the Oconee County Council will officially recognizes the county’s 150th birthday with a special proclamation and reception. The community is invited to this historic milestone celebration, tells Oconee County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Director Phil Shirley. “Monday night is really our kickoff. We will have a reading of the proclamation that our county council has signed. Everybody who comes we will give them one of the commemorative coins that we have put together. The coin has our Oconee County seal on one side with 1868 and then on the other side it has our logo, our new Oconee County logo we have been working with celebrating 150 years, 1868 to 2018. But anybody who comes Monday night we’ll get a coin, they will also get a copy of the signed proclamation that we’ve kind of put together in a folder just as a commemorative piece. So, we will read the proclamation, you’ll get those and we’ve got some cupcakes and some refreshments.” It takes place in the Oconee County Council Chambers at 415 South Pine Street in Walhalla.
