Piedmont Man sentenced on intent to distribute Heroin

Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkins states that 34-year-old Willis Rodrigus Weir was convicted on Jan. 31, 2018, by a Greenville County jury of possession with intent to distribute heroin, second offense and sentenced him to 17 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections by the Honorable Judge Letitia Verdin. Evidence presented at the trial by Assistant Solicitor Ryan Holloway established that on Dec. 1, 2015, Weir brought 13.57 grams of heroin from Atlanta, Georgia, to a Greenville County Days Inn. He transported the heroin to Greenville for the purpose of selling it. A sheriff’s deputy was at the hotel on routine patrol as one of Weir’s customers arrived at the hotel room. Several individuals, besides Weir, were inside the hotel room. Before the sale of the heroin could occur, the deputy came to the hotel room door to investigate possible drug activity. One of the occupants opened the door and Weir fled the room and abandoned the heroin.
