Ribbon Cutting for CPS Station at Walhalla Fire Department

The Walhalla Fire Department and Safe Kids Upstate, which is led by the Children’s Hospital of the Greenville Health System Program Coordinator Daby Snipes, announces the grand opening and ribbon cutting for a Child Passenger Seat (CPS) Inspection Station. “We have four techs trained there and they are beginning inspections. We are going to have a grand opening. We were going to have it when the icy weather cam through but it is going to be March 21. You can sign up for appointments and the community is welcome to stop by. There will be a tech of every shift to be able to help out, but it is very exciting that right there in Walhalla that you can have your car seat inspected.” The drop in is from noon to 1pm with the ribbon cutting scheduled for 1pm and inspections slated from 2-5pm. It is very important to have car seats installed properly, adds Snipes. “One of the big things is having your child in a car seat with the seat belt and everything correct because some children are unrestrained altogether. The main reason we use car seats is to keep children in the car; that is why we use seat belts. About three out of four car seats are installed incorrectly, either they are not using the right the belts or it is in the wrong direction or something is wrong to were if there is a 35mph crash the child could be injured.” Parents can make an appointment to have their car seats inspected by going to www.safekidsupstate.org/carseat/.
