OC Council approves Condo Incentives

A package of incentives from Oconee County Council to the Lakeside Lodge developers is aimed at saving seven acres at Hartwell Village from annexing to Clemson. The Oconee County Council returned from a closed-door session Tuesday night and approved the incentives, which were not detailed in the motion made by District Four’s Julian Davis and passed without objection. It appears that Oconee County has bought some time in the process that could see an expansion of Clemson’s borders into Oconee County. That possibility has given way to the fear among many Oconeeans that the annexation of the seven acres might be just the start of a Clemson push into Oconee County. The issue has dredged up memories from the mid 1960s when Oconee County lost to annexation by Pickens County of Clemson University, the historic Old Stone Church, and other properties.
