Eight killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of eight persons killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of March 18, 160 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 212 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Locally, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety lists Anderson County with six fatalities in 2018 compared to ten in 2017. Pickens County reports two in 2018 and five in 2017 at this same time. Oconee County has experienced three traffic fatalities in 2018 compared to two in 2017. Of the 121 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2018, 61 were not wearing seat belts. Through March 18, 24 pedestrians have died compared to 35 in 2017; 11 motorcyclists have died compared to 19 in 2017; and two bicyclists have died compared to five in 2017 on state roadways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of 11:59pm on March 18.
