Grand Opening of Walhalla Fire Department CPS Station

Safe Kids Upstate will hold a ribbon cutting for the grand opening of the Walhalla Fire Department Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Inspection Station on Wednesday, March 21, at 1pm. This was originally scheduled for February but due to bad weather had to be rescheduled. Safe Kids Upstate reports that four out of five car seats are installed or used incorrectly. Caregivers with a child age 0-13 years old should have the seat inspected to ensure it is installed properly and meets the child’s requirements as motor vehicle crashes are the leading killer of children under age 19. Safety checks are by appointment only. You can call 864-454-1100 or go to www.safekidsupstate.org/carseat to schedule an inspection. Several stations provide Spanish-speaking interpreters once a month. Ask for an interpreter, if needed, when making an appointment. Bring your child to ensure the seat is age appropriate and fits properly. Inspections take 30-45 minutes per seat and include teaching caregivers how to install the seat correctly. Expect a 2-3 week wait for an appointment, so please plan ahead and be on time. The community is invited to the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Walhalla Fire Department, which is located at 207 East North Broad Street.
