Thunderstorms roll through OC Monday Night

The sound of thunder could be heard throughout Oconee County Monday night. Heavy rains also accompanied the thunderstorm, reports Official U.S. Weather Observer Barbara Wilson from her weather station at Hickory Hollow Farm in Walhalla. “Last night’s storm was a thunderstorm. We had thunder from about 10:30pm on into the evening. We have fog this morning but we had .88 inches of rain last night. We’ve gone over the five inch reading, which is right about average. So, we may get more but we’re doing fine.” Wilson and her family, the Brandts, have been recording the weather from Walhalla for the National Weather Service for over 100 years. They are the longest active weather watchers and volunteer reporters for the National Weather Service.
