Razorback JROTC Rifle Team among National Elite

The Walhalla High School Razorback Rifle Team is set to represent Army JROTC at the national championships. The invite comes with placing in the top seven of all Army JROTC teams in the nation. They will now face the top seven teams from the Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force JROTC rifle teams for the inter service championships at Camp Perry, Ohio this month. Led by senior Matthew Smith, the Razorback Rifle Team won the 4th Bde Championship (best in 5 state area). They qualified for the Army JROTC national championships that are shot in three regions of the United States. They won the Camp Perry, OH region and when all region scores are combined they were seventh in the nation with the top seven teams earning the invitation to the inter service competition. Now seven of the best JROTC teams from each service will compete for top national honors at the inter service competition. Colonel Kevin Mangan said it is an amazing honor to make it to this level. “We started the qualification process with 206 Army JROTC schools competing to get to the Army JROTC National regional competitions. Now to make it to the top seven in the nation for Army JROTC is amazing. Looking forward to see how Walhalla JROTC does against the best of the other services. Our team has worked hard to make it to the championships. I am proud of how the work has paid off with this special group of athletes.”
