Collins Children’s Home wins First Place Egg at World of Energy

With almost 500 votes from community members in Upstate South Carolina, the Collins Children’s Home is the winner of the second annual Festival of Eggs decorating contest, sponsored by Duke Energy’s World of Energy at Oconee Nuclear Station. The contest, a spinoff from the World of Energy’s annual Festival of Trees, invited local organizations to adopt and decorate 16-inch plastic eggs, transforming them into works of art. Visitors to the World of Energy cast ballots for their favorite egg. Eleven organizations participated, representing nonprofits throughout the Upstate. “The contest this year was amazing,” said Chris Rimel, South Carolina nuclear communications manager. “The craft and attention to detail was simply incredible – it really stepped up the decorations of the eggs and made the event a great success.” With 124 votes, the Collins Children’s Home, decorated by the Cosmopolitan Women’s Club, received first place. Foothills Care Center came in second, and the Tamassee DAR School egg took third place. The Collins Children’s Home will receive a $500 donation from Duke Energy. Foothills Care Center and Tamassee DAR School will receive $400 and $300, respectively. Duke Energy’s World of Energy at Oconee Nuclear Station is an interactive education center that focuses on informing the public about energy production and the environment.
