Six killed on SC Roadways over Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety reports six people were killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of April 15, 236 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 292 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Locally, Anderson County lists 11 in 2018 and 14 in 2017. Oconee County reports three deaths each of the past two years at this time. Pickens County has experienced three fatalities in 2018 compared to six in 2017 at this same time. Of the 177 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2018, 92 were not wearing seat belts. Through April 15, 34 pedestrians have died compared to 47 in 2017; 20 motorcyclists have died compared to 28 in 2017; and three bicyclists have died compared to six in 2017 on state roadways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of 11:59pm on April 15, 2018.
