Four killed on SC Roadways over the Weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces a preliminary number of four persons killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of April 22, 255 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 315 highway deaths during the same time period in 2017. Locally, Anderson County lists 11 in 2018 compared to 15 in 2017. Oconee County reports three traffic fatalities each of the past two years at this same time. Pickens County has experienced three roadways deaths in 2018 compared to six in 2017 at this same time. Of the 189 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2018, 99 were not wearing seat belts. Through April 22, 38 pedestrians have died compared to 50 in 2017; 21 motorcyclists have died compared to 33 in 2017; and four bicyclists have died compared to seven in 2017 on state roadways. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of 11:59pm on April 22.
