Go Red for Women Day

Heart Disease is the number one killer of women and today is the 10th Annual National Wear Red Day. Go Red For Women is the American Heart Association’s national movement to end heart disease in women. The campaign launched in 2004 and Dr. Jennifer Mieres, spokesperson for the campaign, says notable landmarks across the country will be involved in the observance.  “The Empire State Building, in Seattle the Needle, in Time Square there are buildings that will be red, the American Heart Association is ringing the opening bell at NASDAQ and we will all be wearing red.” Dr. Mieres talks about one of the campaign’s components.  “To study the science of the gender differences that exist between men and women as it relates to Heart Disease because we have discovered that Heart Disease presents differently in women compared to men.” Women are encouraged to talk to their doctors about their risk for Heart Disease.  Annual checkups are also recommended for older adults who are more susceptible to Heart Disease.
