SC Officials seek help finding Invasive Weeds

With warmer weather, the flowers of cogongrass are in bloom, which helps the invasive weed aggressive spread to new fields and forests, reports Clemson University’s Department of Plant Industry. Left unchecked, cogongrass will choke out native plants, doing untold damage to local ecology and fields. Cogongrass is considered to be one of the 10 worst weeds in the world. It first was found in South Carolina in 1987. The Department of Plant Industry is charged with the eradication of this plant. If you suspect you have found cogongrass, contact the Clemson University Department of Plant Industry by calling 864-646-2140.
