Clemson Expert warns Watermelon Growers of Powdery Mildew

Clemson University specialists warn watermelon growers to act now to protect their crops from powdery mildew, which has now been detected in South Carolina. Powdery mildew produces yellow spots on the tops of the leaves of watermelon plants and white powdery mildew on the undersides. All watermelon crops in South Carolina should be sprayed immediately with a fungicide that is effective against powdery mildew because uncontrolled, powdery mildew can reduce the weight and number of seedless watermelons by 40%.
