Voting off to good start in OC

Voting is underway in Oconee County and according to Voter Registration and Elections Director Joy Scharich, the 2018 South Carolina Primary Elections are off to a good start. “Things are up and running; we’ve been voting since 7am.” Over a thousand people voted absentee in Oconee County, adds Scharich. “Absentee voting picked up quit a bit over the last week or so. We had a total number between the two parties, now these are ballots that were actually returned, we may have some out there that may come in at the last minute, but so far, ballots returned between the Democrats and Republicans was 1,434.” That break down was 301 Democratic ballots cast and 1,133 Republican ballots cast. Scharich reminds voters they need to take a photo ID with them to the polls today. “Be sure you take your photo ID and be sure you know that you are going to the right place. There is no voting here at Pine Street today. People get confused with that maybe they voted here absentee one time in the past so they thing this is still their polling place but absentee ended yesterday. There is no voting at Pine Street today. You need to go to your polling place.” Polls close at 7pm. Before going to the polls, look over your sample ballot by visiting www.scvotes.org. There you will also find your polling location as well as answers to many common questions that voters have had in the past.
