OCPL feeding Kids this Summer

For the third straight year, the Oconee County Public Library (OCPL) is feeding kids lunch this summer, tells Director Blair Hinson. “The OCPL is doing the Summer Feeding Program again this year in cooperation with the School District of Oconee County (SDOC). We serve hot meals at our Walhalla Branch where we have a little bit more space and then we serve bag lunches at the Seneca and Westminster Branches. Also, the Town of Salem, not the library, is doing lunches for the SDOC, but we are right in the same building with town hall, so, you are right there at the Salem Library as well. We will be doing that all through the summer, except the week of July 4. Any kid under 18 come on in. That is a good program because we have a lot of poor areas in our county and for some of these children that maybe the only nutritious meal they get for a day. Again that is in cooperation with the SDOC and their food service through Sodexo.” No registration is required. Only one meal per child, per day and the child must be present to receive the meal, no carry-outs are allowed. All children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Lunches are distributed at the Westminster Rec Center from 11-11:30am, Salem Town Hall from 11am to noon, the Seneca and Walhalla Libraries from 11:30am to 12:30pm, and at the Westminster Library from 12pm to 1pm, Monday through Friday. Once again, there will be no meal service July 2-6.
