Seneca Man arrested on Multiple Charges

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Seneca man on multiple charges last night after a traffic stop on the Utica Mill Hill, explains Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt. “32-year-old Matthew Dewayne Trotter of Twin Springs Drive was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 9:38pm. A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division observed a silver in color Dodge Van traveling on Jamerson Avenue near Seneca yesterday evening with Trotter as the driver. The deputy was informed by an investigator that Trotter had active arrest warrants for first degree burglary and grand larceny. The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. Afterwards, Trotter was placed under arrest on the outstanding warrants. After the arrest, the deputy observed a quantity of methamphetamine inside of the vehicle. Trotter was also discovered to have some rounds of ammunition, which he is prohibited to have possession of due to a prior conviction. Trotter was issued citations on charges of driving under suspension and operating an uninsured vehicle. Arrest warrants were also obtained against Trotter for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of ammunition by a person convicted of a violent felony. The arrest warrants on charges of first degree burglary and grand larceny stem for a separate incident that occurred at an address on Wells Highway in Seneca and was reported to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office the morning of May 31. In that incident, Trotter is accused of breaking into a residence and carrying away property. Trotter was given a combined $40,367.50 surety bond on all charges except for the first degree burglary charge, as the judge denied bond on that charge. Trotter will appear later before a Circuit Court judge regarding bond for that charge. In addition, a hold has been placed on Trotter by Probation Officials in the state of Georgia.” The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation.
