Westminster applying for Energy Saving Loan

The City of Westminster is applying for a $170,000 energy-saving loan for upgrades to its water intake and treatment systems, tells Westminster Mayor Brian Ramey. “The city had a recent electrical system study done by an engineer and that determined that the raw water pumps that we are using, if upgraded, will save the city approximately $130,000 in energy costs per year. These pumps are going to cost the city approximately $160,000, so if we can get this loan, buy these new pumps, the payback for these pumps is less than two years. We will actually have these paid for in energy savings alone. So, it is pretty much a no brainer. It is an expense we can put out right now for one year and it will be pretty much paying for itself every year from here on out.” The South Carolina Energy Office provides low interest loans to technical schools, non-profits, local governments and school districts to implement energy saving measure through its ConserFund program.
